Sharks Introduce Dedicated Strength and Conditioning Program for Youth and Men’s Teams

As part of our commitment to building the strongest Youth and Men’s programs in the NPL, Sutherland Sharks FC is excited to announce the launch of a dedicated Strength and Conditioning (S&C) team for the 2025 season. This initiative reflects our responsibility to not only help our players perform at their best but to give them the framework for long-term success. We’re focused on equipping each player with the strength, resilience, and foundational skills to thrive in the season ahead and well beyond.

Our mission is clear: to ensure our players have every opportunity to excel by focusing on both performance enhancement and injury prevention. With a structured S&C program in place, we’re providing a foundation that strengthens both bodies and minds, allowing our players to compete at their highest potential while reducing the risk of injury. With our first grade pre-season underway and our Youth program starting shortly, S&C will be directly integrated into multiple training sessions each week for the entirety of the season.

New High-Performance Gym and Treatment Facility

We’re also extremely proud to introduce our state-of-the-art High Performance Gym and Treatment Facility. Fully equipped with high-quality commercial-grade equipment, this facility offers one of the best setups of any football club—not just in our competition but anywhere in the country. With top-notch amenities and the latest in athletic training equipment, our new facility provides an unparalleled environment for our players to work hard, recover well, and achieve their goals. We can’t wait to see our players making the most of this space as they build strength and resilience for the season ahead.

Introducing Tom Wilson: Leading Our S&C Team

Head S&C Coach Tom Wilson

Alongside our new facility, we’re thrilled to welcome Tom Wilson as the head of our S&C team. Tom is a highly experienced Exercise and Sports Scientist with over 15 years in the field of athletic performance. A former semi-professional soccer player in the NSW youth and senior NPL—and a former Sharks player himself—Tom knows exactly what it takes to thrive in a competitive environment. Returning to his childhood club, Tom brings not only a wealth of knowledge but a personal connection to the Sharks’ journey and a passion for developing the next generation.

Tom and our S&C coaches are fully qualified and skilled in delivering high-quality, results-driven training. Their expertise spans working with athletes at all levels, and they’re dedicated to helping our players develop the strength, speed, and resilience they need to excel. We expect each player to approach this program with commitment, discipline, and a positive attitude, making the most of every session to reach their potential.

What the Program Will Look Like

In close collaboration with our partners at Jubilee Physiotherapy, our Strength and Conditioning Program has been developed based on industry best practices in elite football, tailored to meet the demands of the sport. It supports players from Under 13’s through to First Grade with a focus on the following key areas:

  • Strength and Power: Building core stability and overall strength for improved performance.

  • Speed and Agility: Enhancing quickness and responsiveness to boost on-field dynamics.

  • Aerobic and Anaerobic Fitness: Building endurance for sustained energy and peak performance.

In partnership with Jubilee Physiotherapy, our S&C program integrates diverse training methods aimed at injury prevention. By focusing on both injury prevention and technique mastery, we’re setting players up for long-term athletic development that will serve them well throughout their football careers.

Through our new S&C program, our state-of-the-art gym, and the expertise of our coaching team, we’re shaping players who are faster, stronger, fitter, and more prepared to meet the challenges ahead. We look forward to seeing how this new initiative helps our Sharks reach new heights in 2025 and beyond.
